About History of Fishing Museum

The History of Fishing Museum in Branson, Missouri, presents an intriguing showcase dedicated to one of America's beloved hobbies. If you're searching for distinctive attractions, this museum is a hidden treasure that deserves your attention.

Home to over 40,000 artifacts valued at more than $5 million, the museum features an array of remarkable items, including early versions of popular fishing gear still in use today. This extensive collection, curated by Karl and Beverly White, includes rods, reels, boats, lures, motors, and even an early model of the first sunglasses ever made.

While collectors often focus on niche items, such as ice-fishing gear or specific brands, the Whites' collection encompasses a wide range of antique tackle and fishing memorabilia. Among the highlights is a Spike Reel from the 1730s, the earliest known reel used by American anglers, and a Snyder Reel from 1840, the first casting reel produced in the U.S. by George Snyder. Acquired in 1997, this reel set a world record for the highest price ever paid for fishing tackle at auction.
