Bluegrass

Bluegrass has a smaller dedicated presence in Branson than the Ozarks setting might suggest, and we would rather tell you that than pad this page out.

One production is listed under it: the Petersen Family Bluegrass Band, a family group working traditional string-band material and gospel harmony. It is genuinely good, and if bluegrass is what brought you here it is the show to see.

That said, the sound turns up in more places than this list captures. Several country productions include string-band segments, and the gospel shows draw on the same close-harmony tradition – Absolutely Country, Definitely Gospel and Ozarks Gospel in particular. Smoke on the Mountain, filed under musical, is set at a 1930s church singing convention and is closer to bluegrass in feel than its category implies. Between them those lists will fill an evening more reliably than waiting for a dedicated bluegrass bill.
