In 2018, Jimmy was also recognized as a solo artist with his induction into the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame. After The Statler Brothers concluded their journey on October 26, 2002, Jimmy took the chance to embark on a solo career, eager to share fresh music with his audience.

His debut solo album, When One Door Closes, was launched in August 2003 under Audium/Koch. He followed this with a gospel album titled I Believe in June 2005, a Christmas album called Feels Like Christmas in 2006, and a live concert DVD in 2007. His country album, “Windows,” was released in 2009, along with “Lessons” in 2012, and the “Hits and Hymns” CD and DVD through Gaither Music Group in 2015, which achieved #10 on the Billboard Country Album chart, #1 in Southern Gospel, and #6 in Billboard Contemporary Christian. The DVD also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Music Video charts. In 2017, he recorded a compilation of his favorite tracks titled “Jimmy Fortune Sings The Classics” under the Gaither Music label. Currently, Jimmy resides in Nashville, where he continues to write, tour, and record.
